NEW MARKET – Lawrence “John” Hester, 63, died Tuesday afternoon at his home here shortly after a two-week stay at Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. Mr. Hester was a member of the New Market Baptist Church. For many years he directed the choir at the Browns Valley Christian Church. He organized the “Music Misters” at New Market and was well-known as a leader of evangelistic singing in this area. Mr. Hester attended Brown Valley School and had been a farmer several years. In recent years he was a custodian at New Market schools. He was born May 29, 1905, at Browns Valley to John H. and Ida (Kennedy) Hester. He was married at Ladoga Aug. 20, 1924, to Lucille Brown, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Basil of Rt. 7, Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Betty) Lester of Rt. 7, Crawfordsville; a twin brother, Clarence of New Market; two sisters. Mrs. Florence Riddle of Browns Valley and Mrs. Etta Friend of Crawfordsville, and four grandchildren, Keith and Tonda Hester and Cindy and Dennis Lester. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Reeves Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. – jlr
